Catholic Church compassion (sic)

You've heard about Catholic Church compassion and concern for the sick and dying? A convent somewhere in the US has fired an up-and-coming nun because she has cancer. The mother superior was quoted as saying "we can't take care of her". There is more to this, but I will spare you the bull. Once again we see this 'religion of conevience' rear it's ugly head.

Oh, did u hear about Ratzingers 'official' (3 versions later) lecture - the one referencing comments made by an earlier pope regarding Isalm lecture? It's hilarious.

Anyhow - very busy

What are you folks doing?

Looking at all the Muslims protesting the popes comments makes one realize that there may be some truth to what Ratzinger (and others) said about Islam. The reality is, it's not Islam that is at fault here - the teachings are noble, but the followers seem to follow thier own path. Burning effigies of the pope and hollering condemnations against the guy are not the things for followers of Islam to do.

Maybe I just have some naive assumptions of how people should act toward one another.

Ratzinger at it again

Pope Ratzinger was at it again, spouting off about Islam and what's wrong with it. Mr. ratzinger might think he's a smart fellow (leader of a very powerful organization and all), but he has a lousy memory. I guess he forgets the atrocities of the Inquisition, the arrangment of the Roman Catholic Church and the Nazi's or even the crusades. These were not-so-righteous times for 'Christianity'and it's overseeing Roman Catholic Church. So, Mr. Ratzinger please keep the mouth shut - you'll keep your feet out of it.

One of these days, I'll have to work on a discourse on how the Abrihamic religions are a threat to humanity.

CNN.com - Pope chastises Canada on gay marriage, abortion - Sep 8, 2006

This Guy Pisses Me Off

So many have died and suffered under the powerful fist and egotistic minds of the roman church. The pope represents a club of religious intolerants (what Abrahamic religion knows what tolerance is?), a represive buch of assholes. What a surprise to see Ratzinger rattle off a bunch of diatribe about Candian politics and its belief of tolerance. This guy, his church, and many others like him are just as dangerous as any murderer.

Too bad we have to put up with this shit.

Nanaimo

Just spent the day in Nanaimo, it was a good time. My wife and I checked out this little spot on the wharf called Troller's. It had some really nice creamy clam chowder, and some really awesome battered halibut. You get some tartar sauce and coleslaw & fries with your fish, unlike the British Bobby restaurant we went to where you have to ask for coleslaw and tartar sauce (for the same price). The atmosphere is fun and happening. I would have to say that you get value for your hard earned cash. So, the next time you're in Nanimo, check out Troller's right on the waterfront - by the harbour office.

Till next time,

Awesome European cuisine at the Bavaria House

It's good to be home. My wife and I popped into our regular eat spot and I had some shnitzle with a mushroom gravy and man was it ever good. The atmosphere is cozy and the pricing is ok. If you're ever in the Coombs area of Vancouver Island, make a stop at the Bavaria House Country House Restaurant.

Van - Last day

Hello All:

This is it. Well, not quite, I'm still gonna blab some more, but I'll update the blog after I'm off the ferry.

Back at Starbucks with free wireless Inet and listening to some 80's tunz (real surprise, right?) - How does it get any better? Yesterday I visited Chinatown (again)and check out the ONLY authentic Chinese garden outside of China - right in the heart of downtown Vancouver! It's a masterpiece of engineering, and esthetics. The Garden was encircled by a very carefully planned colonnade and bisected with an awesome watercourse. In the middle of the garden is a mountain with a shrine on top. It is said that the shrines act as refuge for spirits that are looking for a place to rest. This garden acts as the scholar's private sanctuary. It is quite beautiful.

P.S. The tour is worth the $8.00 CAD

After the gardens, I hung-out at the library. This place is a work of art. Modeled after a roman coliseum, the library truly stands out as a tribute to the Roman Empire.

After the library I picked-up the dweebs at the Van Arts Institute, we dined at the Granville mall and pretty much called it a night after that.

Today (Friday), I dropped the n00bs at the school and headed to Chinatown again. I picked up one of the huge rice pickers hats - kinda like a sombrero, but different material and country:) Cherie will love it. Did I mention that I picked-up these awesome chopstick cheaters! Ha. Anyhow, took some more pics of Chinatown - one of the oldest in Canada. It's 2:00pm and I'm gonna sign off now.
I'll give you may comments of the week after I get off the ferry.

See ya for now,

Vancouver - Day 3

I sit here in Starbucks with this free wireless internet connection looking at all the different people that walk by. People of all colours, dress, language and I assume religion. What puzzles me most is - why do we get along? Now, I'm sure there are millions of other people all around the world that are "getting along", so what is it that keeps us from hauling off and smacking someone in the head? Is it morals, rituals, common sense (doesn't seem so common these days) or is it laws?

It goes back a long way. A really long way. Many people use the phrase "reason to live" or "purpose in life" to give our "reason" for existance some validity. In fact, our raison d'etre, or more specifically our motivation, is really quite simple. Survival - The ability to stay alive. We make this choice everyday. It also seems intrinsic that most of us prefer to be happy and sad. The fact that people realize aspects of thier existance - and how it affects others - proves that we CAN make a difference in this troubled world. It is quite evident that peoples of the world must be educated - educated with knowledge that is fact based and not merely here-say. This is one of the most important steps needed to open the doors to humanity's endless potential (until the meteor hits earth and decimates all life on the planet):)

Cheers,

In Vancouver - Day 1

Day 1
I'm in Vancouver takin' in the sights and sounds (and smells). I popped into this internet cafe (Roberto's Netplace on Seymour St.) to take a look around when the sales person told me that it wasn't a place to look around but a place for those who want to use the internet. Bad move. I promptly said thanks and left. So for all you folks looking for a web connection in Vancouver - stay away from Roberto's Netplace on Seymour St. - it might be net friendly, but it's not people friendly.

I'll keep you posted as my week progresses.

About: Brian Flemming's Weblog

I guess I could give the guy and his work a plug. You can find him at www.slumdance.com

There, you will find a link to his documentary "THE GOD who wasn't there"

If you are looking for further reading, check out "The Jesus mysteries", by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy - you can find them at www.timothyfreke.com/

Have fun,

Fernando M. Falcao

Brian Flemming's Weblog

It's been a while again:(

Just saw the documentary "The God who wasn't there" and was impressed. Most of the time the creator, Brian Flemming, did a great job of informing the viewer on the likelihood that jesus probably didn't exist. He did however did get goofy in one particular instance. The interview with the recent principal of the christian school that he used to attend as a boy seemed to be a little of an ambush - but to Brian's defense I will say that there wasn't much the principal could have done to defend himself from Brian's questions - he couldn't have. I wish Brian could have taken some of his "tone" out of the questioning. All in all it was fantastic piece of work. I would like to see a series that takes a definitive look at the points that Brian raises. The comparative "hero pattern" and the disjointed NT work from Saul of Tarsus (Paul) just to name a couple.

My first impression of the documentary is that Brian follows some of the "jesus" research and reaches the same conclusion that many other have reached - That jesus probably did not exist as the NT portrays (that's my impression, not Brian's). Some of the quotes that Brian slides in his work are just what people need to see - that early fathers of the church didn't believe that jesus was a real person, but existed as part of the mythos of the time & place.

I would recommend this work to anyone interested in thinking for themselves.

Peace and Harmony,

Fernando M. Falcao
